Building Crafts College
We are a small friendly college with around 200 students so that means you get individual tuition or you learn in small groups. We provide specialist full, part time and taster courses related to Construction and Building crafts. These include Modern Apprenticeships, City & Guilds and National Vocational qualifications in Carpentry & Joinery, Stone Masonry, Fine Woodwork and Shop Fitting.
We will also be offering the new 14-19 Diploma in Construction & the Built Environment from September 2008. Construction is the UK's biggest industry, its biggest export and it keeps on growing. There are hundreds of exciting and varied career opportunities in this challenging and rewarding industry. 1 in 14 people are already working in construction and more new people with all sorts of skills and abilities are needed.
To enter the industry in a craft occupation, you will need:
* A good basic education (Maths and English would be an advantage).
* Craft trainees will develop skills using their hands and specialist equipment whilst learning about contruction materials and production methods.
To train in a technical occupation you will need:
* Four good GCSE passes (A*-C)
* A levels or an equivalent applied or vocational qualification.
* You will have the opportunity to complete further vocational and professional qualifications and move to supervisory or management roles.
